Tonight for fun I decided to take a look at my monthly logs for 2013 and add my mileage for the year to date. Overall it really does not mean anything. I do not set monthly or yearly mileage goals for myself.
Overall this year I have run a total of 2895.23 km (1799 miles). By way of comparison, a search of a similar post from this time last year shows I had 2759 km as of December 1 last year so in terms of overall mileage 2012 and 2013 have been very similar years.
I did mention that this is something that does not really men anything in terms of my running goals but I can have some fun with it. Since I am only 105 km away from 3000 for the year I am going to see if I can close out the year with at least 105 km between now and the end of the year.
This should be a pretty easy target given my usual routine. I have 21 days left to get in that 105 km.
There are only six days left in 2012 now. The arrival of a new daughter a month ago and the holiday season has made it more difficult to maintain my usual running schedule. Fortunately I have been able to maintain a relatively regular routine.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get in a Christmas Day run today but a few more runs in what remains of 2012 will push my monthly mileage to just over 200 km which I feel is a decent total given the arrival of my second daughter last month and the fact that I did not have any races planned following October’s Toronto Waterfront Marathon.
So far I have managed to fit in 156 km this month. With six days to go in the month I should easily be able to fit in the 44 km needed to get me to 200 km for December and close out 2012.
With that I think I have my last goal for the year, 200 km in December. Once this month is out of the way I can start focusing on my plans for 2013. I have already started thinking of plans for 2013 and will have a post dedicated to that in the next week.
How do you plan to close out 2012?
Tonight’s 9 km run was my last run of the month meaning there is only one month left in 2012. My final run left me with just over 200 km for the month. This is a decent amount of mileage for a month when I did not have any races planned or goals set.
In terms of overall mileage for 2012, tonight’s run put me at 2759.3 km (1714.5 miles) so far in 2012. Last year I ran 3133 km. Even with a consistent a consistent December I won’t match last year’sm mileage but I will still come close to it which is not bad considering the time I missed when I sprained my ankle in September.
Looking ahead to December I once again have no set goals for the month other than to run consistently. My indoor speed intervals to help get ready for 2013 should start in December which will provide me with a little more variety in my training for now but I will close out 2012 without any pressure or plans goals.
January will be a different story when I look to plan races for 2013 but I will deal with that later. For now I will just look to keep running consistently and close out the year on a good note.
I’ve already written about how my final running goal of year is to close out 2011 with more mileage than I completed in 2010. After a 12 km run tonight I am still on pace to achieve that goal.
In order to achieve my goal I will have to close out 2011 with at least 3,105 km, or 1,929 miles. After tonight’s 12 km run my 2011 mileage now sits at 3,056 km, or 1,898 miles. Only 48 more km to go!
If I maintain my current pace of averaging 8-10 km per run, and possibly a longer run Thursday since I have the day off work, I should achieve my goal Friday or Saturday at the latest.
As for the far fetched idea of completing 2,000 miles, or 3,218 km, this year? As it stands, I still have 162 km, or 100 miles to go. With 13 days left this month 2,000 miles may be unrealistic at this point. I am not certainly not going to push harder just to hit this number but I’ll see where I am at in two weeks from now and if I am close I just might add a few extra miles to my runs!
What running goals are you trying to achieve before the end of 2011?
As per usual I planned to run home from work this evening but it turned out to be one of those days that despite the best of intentions I could not get in a run.
In reality it turned out to be one of those days where I should have scheduled my run for early this morning. Unfortunately that was not an option since I did not get to bed early enough to manage a 5:00 AM wake-up call this morning.
As it turns out, a late meeting at work and the fact that I had to go pick-up my car at the dealership because I had the snow tires installed, on the warmest December 15th on record here no less, prevented me from getting in my planned run.
There you have it. A minor setback in my quest to surpass my mileage from last year. As usual missing a planned run has left me feeling a little restless but in the grand scheme of things it’s not a big deal. I am still on track to surpass last year’s mileage and making sure I get in a run tomorrow will bring me a step closer to that goal.
How do you deal with having to skip a planned run?
Right now I am still in a period of just running for myself as I figure out my plans for the next year. As it stands, I have only registered for a 10 km race in 2012. There will be more to come soon but for now that is it.
At this point it is still likely I will run the Ottawa Marathon in May but I have not yet officially committed to it. As I mentioned last week, the only goal I am running for now is to surpass my mileage from last year.
I did a quick update of my mileage for this year tonight and I am well on my way to reaching that goal. As it stands, my mileage for the year now sits at 3,017.5 km, or 1,875 miles. With only 87 km, or 54 miles to go, I should reach that mark by next weekend.
Looking at my mileage totals so far for this year I noticed tonight that another 125 miles, or 200 km, would give me 2,000 miles for the year. That number really does not mean anything and at this point that is still a long shot but if I do get manage to get close to that total later in the month it might give me a final goal to aim for as I close out the year.
