This week I had planned to get back into a regular running routine. While I managed to get in a few runs things did not go quite as planned.
I started off the week as planned, getting in 8 and 9 km runs on Sunday and Monday. Both runs went well and had me feeling like I was easing back into a routine after the Philadelphia Marathon two weeks ago.
My week starting to go off track Tuesday when heavy rain caused me to cut short my planned run. As mentioned last night, I was sick Wednesday and a run was out of the question. Last night I was able to get in a quick 5 km run.
Today I was planning to get in a run after work but I washed my running clothes late last night meaning they were still wet this morning when I left for work. Since I could not run home from work I had every intention of going for a run later tonight but a day of poor eating habits has made that idea out of the question.
As a result, I have only run 26 km, 16 miles, so far this week. Right now I am planning to get up early tomorrow and get in a good run with my daughter in her Chariot. That should help get me back on track.
Signing up for upcoming races would probably also help. I have not made any final decisions yet but am close to deciding on a couple of shorter races.
How did your training go this week?
The warmer than usual weather we have been getting over the last week has also meant more rain which generally is unusual for this time of year here. So far I have not missed a run over that time due to the rain as I have been able to avoid it onmy runs.
That changed tonight with my run after work. It rained most of the afternoon today but since it was so dark by the time I was ready to leave work I could not tell if it was still raining. You can imagine my surprise when I got outside and it was raining hard.
Since I was already changed and set for a run I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately I did not last very long as the combination of hard rain, wind and cool air just made it a miserable experience.
Maybe if I was currently training for a race I would have stuck with it and run all the way home but since I am not I decided to pack it in and run to a bus stop to catch a bus home. Fortunately I did not have too far to go to get to a bus stop.
The end result is that I ran about 3 km before I caught the bus and another 1 km home from the bus stop. Not exactly what I had in mind when I set out for a run today but I still managed to get a run in.
What kind of weather forces you to shorten or cancel a run?
Tonight I had planned to complete an easy 8 km run after work. My plan seemed to be going well until about 4:00 this afternoon when a combination of steady rain and fatigue resulting from not enough sleep had me questioning whether I should run.
In the end the decision to postpone my run won out and I decided to take advantge and get some rest. I am planning to head to bed after I finish this post in the hope that I will be well rested and more energized tomorrow.
To make up for the missed mileage I am planning to either run twice tomorrow, once before work and once after, in order to make up for the 17 km I was planning to run today and tomorrow.
The two run option seems more likely at this point as I will likely not have time for a 17 km run, either before or after work.
