Sub-Two Hour Marathon?

I came across this article of interest earlier today when I was looking for other stories of interest to read.

It is not the first time I saw the suggestion that a sub-two marathon could eventually be possible but just the thought of it being possible still amazes me.

I guess when you consider that the current world record is Haile Gebrselassie’s time of 2:03:59 at the 2008 Berlin Marathon maybe it isn’t that crazy of a suggestion. Gebrselassie certainly seems to think it will happen.

However, the thought of someone being able to run a marathon in under two hours is something that still boggles my mind.

I know one thing and that is I will never come close to being able to do that. I am pushing myself just to try and meet the Boston Marathon qualifying standard for my age group which is currently 3:15 although with this year’s changes to the registration rules I will probably need to aim for a 3:10 in order to ensure I get¬†an opportunity to register.

For now I can,t even imagine what it would take for me to be able to go any faster than that. What do you think of the possibility of a sub-two hour marathon?
