It is time again for Saturday Stories, a collection of some of my favourite articles and blog posts from the past week. Since I did not post last Saturday I have also included some stories from the previous week. As always, if you came across anything you feel is worthy of mention here feel free to post a link.
Here is a crazy story, cops mistake runner for suicide bomber.
Here are some tips on how to avoid the medic’s tent during a marathon.
With the cost of race entries on the rise do you ever wonder where your money goes? Watch this video .
A new world record was set in the marathon. Is a sub 2:00 hour marathon possible now?
Do you fuel with carbohydrates for shorter races?
Finally, the next #runchat will take place tomorrow night.
I came across this article of interest earlier today when I was looking for other stories of interest to read.
It is not the first time I saw the suggestion that a sub-two marathon could eventually be possible but just the thought of it being possible still amazes me.
I guess when you consider that the current world record is Haile Gebrselassie’s time of 2:03:59 at the 2008 Berlin Marathon maybe it isn’t that crazy of a suggestion. Gebrselassie certainly seems to think it will happen.
However, the thought of someone being able to run a marathon in under two hours is something that still boggles my mind.
I know one thing and that is I will never come close to being able to do that. I am pushing myself just to try and meet the Boston Marathon qualifying standard for my age group which is currently 3:15 although with this year’s changes to the registration rules I will probably need to aim for a 3:10 in order to ensure I get an opportunity to register.
For now I can,t even imagine what it would take for me to be able to go any faster than that. What do you think of the possibility of a sub-two hour marathon?
