I set out to find another unique marathon to profile today and came up with the world’s highest marathon. The Everest Marathon.
If the challenge of running a marathon is not enough for you then this one gives you the added challenge of running a marathon at high altitude and on mountain trails. You can also expect snow and ice on the ground at the start.
The race itself starts just below the Everest Base Camp at 5184 m, or 17,000 feet! Given that the race starts at such a high elevation, most of it is in fact downhill although the race organizers point out that there are two steep uphill sections.
A nice feature of this race is that it is a non-profit venture with proceeds going toward educational and health projects in Nepal.
What do you think of this one? Is it a marathon you could see yourself running?
