Marathon Profile: North Pole Marathon

It is Wednesday and once again that means it is time for a marathon profile. Given the heat we are experiencing once again the ”world’s coolest marathon” might appeal to you even more right now. Tonight’s profile is of the North Pole Marathon.

If running to the North Pole is not unique enough for you, this is the only marathon that is run ”on” water as it takes place on frozen ice flows.

You might be asking yourself how exactly do you get to a race that takes place on a moving ice flow? It first involves making your way to the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen which is located in the Arctic Ocean. From there a cargo plane will transport runners to a camp on the North Pole ice flow.

Obviously when travelling to the North Pole the weather will be a factor. According to the race organizers you can expect temepratures of anywhere from -20 to -30C during the race.

If you are interested in this race you can expect to pay about $17,000 to register! On top of that you also have to make your way to Norway. If you are interested in more info you can read some reviews here.

What do you think, is this a race you could see yourself doing?
