Run 4 Christchurch

Recently I wrote about the Run 4 Christchurch initiative to raise funds for relief efforts following the earthquake of February 22 of this year. You may recall that the initiative called on runners to head for a run on March 12 or 13, donate to relief efforts and submit a link to a report of that race that will be posted on the following site.

Here is my race report for the Run 4 Christchurch.

Today my schedule  called for a 24 km run. After yesterday’s 10 km race I was planning an easy run this morning.

My alarm went off at 5:00 this morning and I got dressed in black and red, the traditional colours of Canterbury, and was out the door by 5:30. With the temperature already above 0 when I left the house I would have to make sure keep an eye out for large puddles caused by the increasingly melting snow.

The route I chose today took me through downtown Ottawa. From downtown I headed down Sussex Dr past a number of embassies and the residences of the Prime Minister and Governor General of Canada.

I turned around just after Rideau Hall, the residence of the Governor General, ran past 24 Sussex, the residence of the Prime Minister, and headed for the bridge to cross the Ottawa River to the Province of Quebec.

Next my run took me past the Canadian Museum of Civilization and back across the Ottawa River to Ottawa and headed toward home.

In the end I finished with 23.6 km in 2:08. The map of my run can be found in the sidebar along the right if you are interested.
