This is a familiar question after running a marathon. At least for me it is. I find in the build-up to a goal marathon so much energy and effort is spent over several months to prepare for one day that once that race day passes it takes some time to figure out what to do next.
It has been a week and a half since the Ottawa Marathon. I am back to running again, starting with and easy run home from work Friday. I have been for three more runs since then. All of those runs came at a very relaxed pace. In fact, the highlight of tonight’s run was this…

Of course that still leaves the question of what comes next. I have already mentioned that I actually am registered for another marathon in September, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in Montreal which I registered for because I have relatives running other races that weekend and was not necessarily expecting to be looking to go for a pb.
Since it can still be hot and humid in Montreal in September, not ideal conditions for a pb, I am in the process of looking for a fallback option in October or November. In addition, I would also like to take a crack at my 10 km pb that I set last summer and am considering some options in July and August to do just that.
My plan will be more clear tomorrow night once I have had a chance to discuss with my coach and put together a plan of attack. For now I will just continue with the easy runs for the rest of the week.
What are your plans for the summer?
