2012 in Review

Here we are with another year coming to an end. For me, both on a personal level and in terms of running, it was a roller coaster year. The year got off to a negative start for me and ended on a good note.

As mentioned the year started off on a negative note. My year started off with the unexpected passing of my father in January. Fortunately i was able to use running to help get me through this difficult period. Not only did running provide me with a distraction from what was going on running also provided me with the time I needed to gather my thoughts and piece together the two eulogies I never expected to have to deliver this year.

In terms of running results this year, I managed to set personal bests in the half-marathon and marathon. In a tune-up race for the Ottawa Marathon I managed to break 1:30 in the half-marathon. In the Ottawa Marathon I set another personal best by breaking 3:20 with a 3:17 in the Ottawa Marathon.

I made an effort to set another personal best in the marathon in October. Unfortunately, a sprained ankle suffered while playing soccer four weeks before the marathon put an end to an end to any hope of setting a personal best. Fortunately I was able to recover in time to the marathon and I was able to run a 3:30 four weeks after injuring my ankle. My recovery from the injury was enough to give me more confidence as I head into 2013.

Finally, my year ended on the most positive of notes with the birth of my second daughter in November. I can’t think of a better way to end a year. I am already looking forward to when my second daughter is old enough to ride in the Chariot and experience some of the adventures I have shared with my older daughter.

Thanks for reading in 2012. I hope you have a great 2013!

    1. Thanks. Best wishes to you in 2013 as well.

By the way, in case you have not been by there, the path through Vincent Massey Park is covered in snow. It has not been plowed at all.

  2. You had a great year with a lot of highs and lows mixed in there — I think it’s set you up well for a great 2013!
