Week 12 of Training for the Ottawa Marathon

Week 12 of my 16 week training for the Ottawa Marathon got off to a good start. As I reported on Sunday, I ran a total of 31 km with the last 10 km being a 10 km race run at my intended marathon pace.

Since then it has been a pretty low-key week of running. With my intended speed interval session being rained out last night this week’s runs following the 10 km race on Sunday have been relatively easy runs.

In terms of mileage, my goal for the week was to get over 80 km. In order to guarantee that I had planned to get in two runs today but in the end there just was not enough time in the day to fit in the second run.

Heading into tomorrow I need just 15 km to get up to 80 km for the week so that goal is still certainly attainable this week. Since most of my runs this week were relatively easy efforts, my goal for tomorrow is to go for a marathon pace run of about 15 km to give me another harder effort this week and to get me up to my weekly mileage goal.

Week 13 will kick off on Sunday with a 25 km (16 mile) effort, which incidentally is will be my second longest run left before the Ottawa Marathon – my last 32 km (20 mile) run the following Sunday is the longest run remaining.

How did your training go this week?
