Marathon Profile: St George Marathon

In looking for marathons that would be fun or unique to do Utah is not a place I would have thought of. Enter the St George Marathon which I came across tonight as I was looking for a new race to profile.

The appeal to this one is that it is a downhill course and presents a good opportunity for those looking to qualify for Boston. To give you an idea of the profile of the course, the altitude at the starting line is 5,243′ while the altitude at the finish line is 2,678′! Fortunately the declines are not that steep either which helps ease the pressure on your quads.

The course is a point to point course ending in St George. Not only was it rated as one of the quickest marathons by Runner’s World, it was also rated as one of the most scenic as well. Judging by some of the pictures online it is easy to see why.

As always, if you are interested in more information you can read some race reviews here.

What do you think, is this a marathon you would be interested in doing?
