Tonight’s preview if of a marathon I did not know existed until recently. Not only was I not familiar with the race itself I was also not familiar with the location at all but I think I have found another one to add to my bucket list. The Catalina Marathon takes place on Catalina Island in March.
For those who are not familiar with the locaiton either, Catalina Island is located about 22 miles southwest of Los Angeles…
The fact that it takes place on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean makes it seem like an ideal destination marathon. How can you go wrong with this location? I’m sure the scenery would be hard to beat. This is one I might just be able to sell my wife on the idea of travelling to.
As you can imagine due to the remote location of this one there are not many spectators along the course but apparently you will find yourself running among buffalo. The course is run on mainly dirt trails and as you can imagine from the picture above it is a hilly course.
If you are interested more information about this one head over here for some race reviews.
Unfortunately it sounds like there is a bit of a battle between the organizers of the race and the conservancy group that manages the land on which the marathon is run. Something to keep an eye on if you are interested in this one.
