Joan Benoit Samuelson Returns to Boston

If you are planning to follow coverage of Monday’s Boston Marathon there is another angle to follow now following reports today that Joan Benoit Samuelson will return to run Boston after an 18 year hiatus.

Though she says she is not thinking about it Samuelson, the gold medalist at the 1984 Summer Olympics, can qualify for the Olympic trials if she is able to run a 2:46. It is certainly a possibility considering she ran a 2:47 in Chicago last year.

I will certainly tune in Monday, in part to see if she does qualify for the Olympic trials. Will you be following coverage of the Boston Marathon Monday?

In addition to this being a story about the Boston Marathon, the other part of this story that caught my attention is where Samuelson has trained while preparing for Boston. Two places I have enjoyed traveling to and would enjoy returning to.

The Maine Seacoast

And Zermatt, Switzerland

  1. I am not at all familiar with the course in Chicago. You are right that there is a big difference between a hilly course and a flat course.
