Marathon Profile: Reykjavik Marathon

Tonight I have decided to profile another marathon that I would like to do but likely will not have the opportunity to do. The Reykjavik Marathon.

Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland, an island located in the North Atlantic.

My interest in this marathon is more for the opportunity to travel than for the race itself. I think Iceland would be an amazing place to travel to, as you can tell from the pictures of the erupting geyser above and the geothermal bath below not to mention the volvanoes and glaciers you would also see.  For me the marathon itself would just be an added bonus.

As for the marathon, it takes place in August. At night when you are recovering from the marathon you can take part in the annual Culture Night festivities, an event that regularly attracts more than 100,000 visitors. The population of Reykjavik is only 200,000!

This might be the marathon for you if you are looking travel to a race in a scenic location with a small town feel - about 10,000 people participated in the races last year and less than 1,000 of those completed the marathon.

If you are interested in learning more about this marathon you can visit the official website. You can also check out some reviews of the marathon here.
