My Life on the Run by Bart Yasso

The day before we headed on vacation last month I picked up a copy of Bart Yasso’s My Life on the Run. I just finished reading the book last night and thought I would provide a bit of a review.

I had heard of Yasso before buying the book, from reading articles in Runner’s World, but I was not really familiar with his story.

The book is an inspiring read as it chronicles how Yasso turned his life around with running after struggling with substance abuse earlier in his life.

The book is also quite entertaining as Yasso describes some of his more exciting adventures in running across the United States and abroad – incidently reading about his adventures provided me with a couple more ideas to add to my bucket list if time and money were not an issue!

As a bonus, the book also contains training programs for various distances at the back. When I realized that I decided to try one of Yasso’s marathon training programs in order to get myself ready for the Ottawa Marathon. So far it is going well although we’ll see how I feel after my first series of Yasso 800’s in 7 weeks!

One thing the book does not chronicle is Yasso’s running of the Comarades Marathon in South Afirca. For more on that you check out this series of videos on the Runner’s World website.

I would recommend the book to any runner who is looking for a quick and entertaining read.

On another note, stay tuned tomorrow night for a new weekly feature which I will start publishing on here.
