After being away for a week of skiing I went for my first run tonight. I wasn’t sure how the break would affect my running but tonight’s run felt like I hadn’t stopped. On a side note, if you are also into running and skiing I think running definitely helps get your legs in shape for skiing. I logged quite a few vertical miles in four days of skiing and my legs did not suffer as much as they probably would have had I not maintained a regular running schedule before the trip.
Tonight’s run marked the start of my 18 week training program for the Ottawa Marathon. Some of you may recall that I had been debating which training program I would use for this marathon. You may also recall that I purchased a copy of Bart Yasso’s My Life on the Run before I left for Whistler.
I started reading the book on the flight home yesterday and noticed that training programs are included at the end. I have decided to use one of Yasso’s marathon training programs.
Tonight’s run called for 8 km (5 miles) at an easy pace. Fortunately for me I did not have more mileage on the schedule as we are in the midst of a cold snap here (-20 C and -31 with the windchill when I left the house). I managed to stay warm during my run but had it been any colder I would have postponed my run.
